DOUG
COOK WEBMASTER Born in the Canadian province of Ontario, I spent much of my younger life crisscrossing the country. With a father in the pipeline construction industry, that was life... where the work was... that's where we lived. (even if it was only for a couple months or so) After finishing high school I went into the pipeline industry as well. For a young guy it was great. You would work for 5 or 6 months a year and enjoy life the rest of the time. Lots of skiing, Frisbee, parties and good times! In 1983 I spent 9 amazing months traveling around S.E. Asia, India and Nepal. But as a person gets older and has more of those nagging little things called responsibilities and kids (hmm... who's idea was that anyway) the life of traveling and living from a suitcase had to go by the wayside. Most of the 90's I was working for a lumber reman mill in the Vancouver area. This was one of those jobs that was only going to be a stop-gap kind of thing... then suddenly 10 years had gone by. Things were changing at the mill and I knew I needed a change in jobs myself. Being one of the internets early pioneers (I was online in early '94) I had dabbled with building home pages for my kids (crude ones - but we all need to start somewhere right?). I knew whatever I did was going to involve the internet. To me, the net represented a huge opportunity, a chance to be creative and the opportunity to have a great deal of freedom. |
My
web skills have been self taught for the most part. Early in 2000 I
started the Certificate in Internet Publishing at the University of
British Columbia. This is a fantastic program that has won numerous awards
and was the first of its kind in North America. All went well and I completed the program in early
2001 with an "A" average. I would highly recommend this
certificate program to anyone in the Vancouver area!
I first met Vince Hemingson in '98 when I did his Pinnacle Entertainment web site for him. From there our working relationship has grown into a true friendship. When talk of this tattoo project first began, I was intrigued (and very interested)... the whole idea sounded like a real adventure... (very much in the vein of Indiana Jones). The more I learned about tattoos and tribal tattooing, the more committed to helping with the project I became. For the most part this gig has been one of a volunteer. It has allowed me to express myself in many creative ways and for my work to be seen by over a million viewers a month from every corner of the globe. Thanks to all those that have supported me in my endeavors to this point. Oh ya, if you were wondering... I do not have any tattoos. You can contact me at webmaster@vanishingtattoo.com |
