Cupid tattoo design meaningsCupid Tattoo DesignsIn Roman mythology, Cupid (Latin cupido) is the god of erotic love. He is equated with the Greek god Eros, and another one of his Latin names Amor (cognate with Kama). In popular culture Cupid is frequently shown shooting his bow to inspire romantic love, often as an icon of Valentine's Day.

Cupid tattoo design meaningsA cherub or cherubim, are angels depicted as infants or young children, most often boys. Historically, winged figures with a human form pre-date even the bible, going back to Assyrian myths and legends. The winged figures were often sent as messengers or guides. In Hebrew cherubim were supernatural entities mentioned several times in the Old Testament and the Torah.

The concept of cherubs as "baby" angels does not emerge in Western art until the late Renaissance in Italy. Such figures were known as "putti".

Cupid is a holiday character and symbol usually representing Valentines Day and the emotion of love. Cupid is based on the god of Roman mythology of the same name, but has undergone many changes. Cupid in this usage is not tied to any religion and is not generally considered to be a god. Cupid is often used in modern tattoos to commemorate your true love.
